These are pictures from our trip to Mexico February 2005.

Monday (February 28) we shelled out some money (about $150 per couple) for the Mayan Adventure tour - snorkeling at three different locations.  The first spot was in Akumel - two hours in a bracken water (fresh & salt water) lagoon, out to the ocean.  Here we saw not only many fish, but also a couple of barracuda.  A great picture of this lagoon is on locogringo.com.

Following this, we went to the location of an underground cavern.  With stalactites & stalagmites, this cave was very interesting, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Following the cave dive, it was time for a great lunch (chicken & nachos, among others), at a pavilion near the cavern.
At the pavilion were several young kids.  The story told by these pictures made my day, and perhaps was the most special moment of the whole trip to me.
Here Sherry decided to go talk to the kids, and was trying to put her ankle bracelet on the arm of the young girl.
Unfortunately, the clasp had come undone, and she was having troubles.  Here, the little guy (down front) notice Sherry's camera, in the hands of his friend.  Sherry kept the pictures that he took.
OK, so now Sherry's telling me she's having problems with the clasp.  Meanwhile, the little guy is now intent on checking out her camera.
Without a doubt, this is my favorite picture of this trip - it makes me smile every time.  The pure joy as this little guy looks over Sherry's camera is priceless, and is all the more enjoyable at the end of the series, as he goes from looking at the bracelet until he has the picture in his hands.  Soon, I was working on the bracelet, and he then had my camera in his hands, and Sherry was the one taking pictures.

Following this we headed to our third stop, the Mayan Sacrifice, where we jumped about 25 feet into a Cenote, or sinkhole.  Not everyone participated, but it was fun.  After doing this for a while, some of us put on our snorkels, and what a world we found under the water in the sinkhole.  I enjoyed the whole day much more than I expected.

Still on Monday, after our return from the Mayan Adventure, we had this adorable towel baby, holding a tissue flower with real leaves, and pieces of the leaves for eyes & mouth.

Also, another picture of the room before we messed it back up again.

Tonight was El Dorado, or steakhouse night, our third & final A La Carte restaurant.  Each of the three were very good, just a different style of food.  Short of the beach buffet, all the food at the hotel was excellent.

Wednesday (March 2) - The first morning there I tried to get sunrise pictures, but missed the actual sunrise by about 15 minutes.  Today I got there in time to see the sunrise, but it was just blocked enough by the clouds.  I got a couple on Sherry's camera, but I only got this one.
Our building (Number 5).  Room Number 1517 - top floor, upper right, in the corner.
OK, so our time is up & it's time to go home.  First thing in the morning we had to have our stuff up front to prepare to go back to the airport.  Then we had our last breakfast, and headed home.
I took these pictures of the Commons area to show the architecture of the hotel.

In the first picture you see the huge thatch roof.  In the next two you can see underneath the roof.  This architecture was very common everywhere we went - makes for a very open & airy feeling, and looks very impressive.

Back in Detroit, at my van (which we left at the hotel near the airport).  It was in the 70's when I took that sunrise picture (above), and probably near 90 by the time we got on the plane to head home.  By the time we got back to the van it was about 6:00pm, and not even 20 degrees.

My attempt to finish my last roll of film was not met well by everyone else, who just wanted me to start the van.  Back to reality, and back home.

Still March 2 (Wednesday) even though the pictures say otherwise.
