324. Simon Van Campen
I believe that Simon and Petrus were twins, as evidenced by the format of the baptism record, showing 4 witnesses as was common for the baptism of twins. The name of child is listed as Zimon, Petrus, with the comma indicating that it was two children.
From ancestry.com (Richard Jenni)
The following entry from Nancy Van Camp leads me to believe that Peter was not a twin after all: "Jacob Van Camp, father of Peter and Jacob was born in 1755 in Crum Elbow, Dutchess, New York. Died June 1799 in Matilda, Dundas, Ontario. Parents were Simon or Zimen Peter or Petrus Van Camp and Femmetje Phebe Bergen. Spouse was Annatie Buis no marriage date listed." RAJ
"When Jacob makes a claim for losses in the name of his father Peter who died in 1783, he mentions 4 sons and 4 daughters, but only names 7 children. The 4 sons are named Jacob (the applicant), Simon and Thomas in the U.S, John in Johnstown and three girls, Mary married to John Boice, Phoebe married to (Samuel) Street and Hetty married to William Leahy. No mention of Peter at all, but I do have one petition where Peter Sharp applies for a township of land for a group of men who were "uniformly loyal to his majesty and the British government" It is dated 1792 and both Simon Van Camp and Peter Van Camp are listed as part of this group. Perhaps Simon was in Canada for a while and perhaps he eventually changed his name to Peter after his father died." (Pat Pettitt, patp@mentia.com, 21 March 2001)
