A Work in Progress - First Floor - Family Room

This is the 'family room.' As you can tell, this room was added on to the back of the house. This makes for the odd picture (above) where it appears that you are in the backyard, with a ceiling fan hanging from the sky. This is one of the most 'interesting' rooms in the house. The coke sign (top) hides a hole in the wall (apparently created by the previous owners' birds).

Aaahh... The stump. Yes, the stump. This is actually IN the family room - in the small gray room in the picture at the top. Story goes, this stump was from a walnut tree that was cut down and used to make the doors on the kitchen cabinets. Hmm... what to do with the stump?

All I can think of to do is build a platform, and make the space actually usable for something else besides firewood.

Much more comfortable now. Nice blue carpet on the floor, the stump is gone (sorta), the Coke sign removed, and this room has become the flag-themed room. A small vent-free gas stove has replaced the gas-logs in the barbecue pit style fireplace.
The most recent view of the family room is much different than it appears above. I brought home some walls for cubicles and assembled them in this room, to make what I call something to the effect of the 'Game Cube.' As it is a room mostly used by the kids, there is now a space for the TV (and games at times), a computer, and a bed, all in their own separate cube. Well, anyway, it works for now.
